Love, Gratitude & Understanding

What do these 3 words have in common? My new pair of jeans!

If you've been following my blog you know I've been waiting to get back into my old jeans. Well, a dozen yoga classes, lots of walking, and 10 months later I have reached my goal fitting into 2 old pairs. There may be a little muffin top happening but I can still zip them up, so, Horray me! But, the bad news is these 2 pairs aren't my faves. Those are still hanging in the closet.

When I was pregnant my doula told me that a woman's hips can move 2 inches or more during pregnancy and sometimes they don't move back. I believe it. My entire body feels different than before. Different in a good way. I bet it has something to do with the breastfeeding hormones (they seem to impact everything) because I have a new Gratitude for my body that I never had before:  it was the vessel my little baby took to enter our world. I'm also going easier on myself and Understanding that it's okay not to have the same body as before. I have Madelyn now, I didn't have her before. And all this has helped me Love my body more than ever.

What better way to celebrate all of these emotions than with a new pair of investment denim? I have been anxiously waiting for the dojo to hit Aritzia this spring. Then when we were strolling through the mall this week there they were. I tried them on and instantly felt like a MILK (G rated version of you know...K is for kiss :) ). I can't believe it took this long for the trouser flare to reappear..totally takes me back to fall '00. Here they are, my new faves:

Hollywood's Big Night Out

I wasn't too thrilled with the red carpet last night at the 2011 Academy Awards. The event was missing my favorite TV stars (January Jones, Sofia Vergara) and there weren't any big fashion 'wows'. The show itself was pretty entertaining, especially since I was a bit tired from my birthday weekend.

If you watched the carpet or the show, you know Purple was the it colour. Mila, Natalie and Scarlett all looked stunning. But Cate, what were you thinking? If you had only ditched the shoulder pads...

There were also a few celebs living out the Red trend (remember the Golden Globes?).

Gwyneth Paltrow was one of the more original style setters. I loved the Calvin Klein Collection dress she wore for the carpet. Camila Alves also looked amazing in this Kaufman Franco.

I am also a fan of Reese Witherspoon's look in this black and white Giorgio Armani PrivĂ© gown. It took me back to the 2000 Oscars when Julia Roberts won for best actress in Erin Brockovich. Timeless.

I can't believe I'm saying, it but I think I'm becoming a fan of Anne Hathaway. Yes, she was pretty awkward hosting with James Franco, but the girls got style. And hair. She pulled off a different hair style with each dress change. How is that possible? My favorite look on Anne was the red strapless Valentino.

Happy Valentines Day & 2011 Grammy's

What a great Valentines Day. I get to spend the day portion with Maddy and the night with my amazing husband. I'll ignore the fact that I have to hand wash a dishwasher full of dishes (stupid dishwasher), vacuum 1,000 rice puffs that have crawled all over our first floor, clean a muddy dog (thanks weather), sit through a tone def library program, and dunk my head in a public pool. It's still going to be a fantastic day since I'm sooooo in love with this little munchkin. Isn't that little Velcro bow so cute?

Now...on to last night's red carpet. I'll keep it short: bright colour is wear it's at. And Shoes. I so wish I had somewhere to go that required 5" platform heels...

Red Carpet Style Likes: Esperanza Spalding (in ?), Keri Hilson (Basil Soda dress), Heidi Klum (Christian Louboutin shoes) and Eva Kardashian (Ashi dress & Brian Atwood shoes).

Performance Style Likes:  Rihanna in Dior Couture for her performance with Eminem & Dr. Dre, and Gwyneth Paltrow wearing Wilfredo Rosado feather-diamond earrings for her performance with Cee Lo Green and a bunch of muppets. Her shoes were amazing...too bad I couldn't find a better shot of them.

Not a fan: Jo-Low, love your Christian Louboutin's but that Emilio Pucci is too short. Ri, this Jean Paul Gaultier was a bad choice all around.

Back in action & 2011 SAG Red Carpet

When someone close to you is sick your whole world literally stops spinning. Life has been passing me in slow motion during the last couple of weeks. While it has been a really tough time, I have found a lot of hope from the many acts of kindness by my dear friends. Mel, thank you for the beautiful spring tulips. They are filling my kitchen with light and happiness. Parents & friends (you know who you are), thank you for watching over our little angel while I was unavailable. And to my amazing husband, THANK YOU for cleaning our entire house right down to folding the baby clothes. You are so awesome.

This week I am focusing on getting back into routine. Thanks to the SAG awards last night I am having an easy time with my first blog post after a week MIA.

Best Dressed - Solids

Rosario Dawson is top on my list in a cream J Mendel dress that is so cool and refreshing. Her skin tone looks radiant and jewelry by Susie Fox & Neil Lane completes the look (check out her earrings). Tina Fey, thank you for reading my memo about red this season. You have never been hotter than in this Oscar de la Renta. Wow! Sarah Hyland also looked glam in an orange Max Mara Elegante. Lastly, Natalie Portman this is your year. You really know how to show off your belly (here in Azzaro). I can't wait to see what you wear on Oscar night!

Best Dressed - Prints

Claire Danes and Mila Kunis looked stunning in belted prints by Louis Vuitton and Alexander McQueen. I would buy both of these gowns if I could, esp. Mila's with the long train. I also think January Jones looked old-school glam in this Carolina Herrera print. January has such a classic look, I don't know if I could disagree with anything she wears.

Worst Dressed

I'm sorry Angie Harmon, but where did you think you were going last night? JustJared called you a vision, but I think your Monique Lhuillier looked overdone. Jenna Fischer, please fire your stylist. You looked way older than you are in this Fendi. Jane Lynch, this Ali Rahimi is a disaster. I would have preferred to see you in your Glee track suit. And Wynona, you are teen prom meets Wizard of Oz in this Alberta Ferretti.

Worst Dressed Continued

I don't think the following need any commentary other than "ew": Kim Kardashian in Marchesa, Melissa Leo in Randi Rahm and Jennifer Lawrence in Oscar de la Renta.

My Two Cents

I feel like Julie Bowen is going to get a lot of slack for wearing a jumpsuit (Catherine Malandrino). My opinion: I think she looked pretty hot for an on-screen mom of three. Work it Julie! Another not best or not worst is Jayma Mays. This Jenny Packham was a huge step up after her disaster at the Globes, but there is still room for improvement.
